Platform Networks to offer 3G wireless broadband
Wholesale telecoms aggregator Platform Networks plans to couple an aggressive growth strategy with the release of a new product line as it moves into the 3G wireless broadband space.
Specialising in providing managed virtual ISP solutions to entry-level players, the firm is also looking to leverage and broaden its network of channel partners to counteract the effects of the ongoing financial slowdown in 2009.
Alongside plans to expand operations in Victoria, Queensland and Perth this year, Platform will bolster its VSP services portfolio with layer 2 and 3 3G solutions, plus a specialised ultra-low cost and usage product, from the start of February.
The layer 3 offering will come with bundled data, while the layer 2 products can be integrated into MPLS private networks, allowing mobile subscribers to use Optus’ 3G network in tandem with their own corporate LANs. The stripped-down product is aimed at systems integrators working with embedded devices such as mobile EFTPOS machines.
“We are very excited to be able to provide our customers with yet another connectivity option that they can add into their customers’ MPLS network solution,” said Platform MD David Hooton. “3G wireless connectivity is an enormous productivity enabler.”
Undaunted by the difficult economic conditions at the end of last year, Hooton also told CommsDay that Platform is looking to build on its channel partner base to spur further growth. “2008 was a pretty tough year... [but] we’re forging ahead as far as growth goes,” he said. “We’ve definitely got fairly aggressive network growth plans for the next twelve months... the key thing for us right now is becoming more channel partner focused – and growing that channel partner base that we’ve got.”
